Nightlife

Lisbon invites you to go out at night. The same diversity seen during the day comes alive at night in bars, dance floors, traditional fado houses, rooftops offering starry skies, cultural and social spaces, venues with live music, lounges, cocktail bars, wineries, gastropubs… and everything else waiting to be discovered throughout the city.

Some Suggestions to Liven Up Your Nights

Foxtrot

Foxtrot

Off the beaten path, Foxtrot has a speakeasy vibe, with dimly lit rooms and Art Deco style. To enter, you have to ring the bell. A fireplace invites you to sit and warm up, a big advantage in winter. In summer, you can enjoy the small outdoor patio. Perfect for lovers of secret bars and cocktails with a Lisbon twist.

Pavilhao Chines

Pavilhão Chinês

Here, miniature airplanes hang from the ceiling, and cabinets are filled with antique trains and toy soldiers. It’s a bar, yes, but it could also be a museum. The owners took over an old grocery store in 1986 and turned it into a unique cocktail bar that attracts both locals and tourists.

Bar

By the Wine – For Wine Lovers

Whether red, white, or rosé, By the Wine has an impressive wine selection. Just browse the menu or point at the shelves to choose your favorite. The bar is owned by José Maria da Fonseca, one of Portugal’s oldest wine producers.

A Ginjinha Rossio

A Ginjinha – Try the Local Liquor

If you pass through Rossio Square and see people holding small plastic cups, they’re likely drinking Ginjinha. It may not be easy to pronounce, but this cherry liqueur goes down smoothly. Before serving, the owners will ask if you want it with or without cherries or even in a chocolate cup.

Associacao Loucos e Sonhadores

Loucos e Sonhadores – A Great Bar in Bairro Alto

There are plenty of options in Bairro Alto, but this bar is a must-visit. Here, simplicity is key. A glass of beer or wine and free salted popcorn are what attract locals to this laid-back spot. Give it a try!

Fabrica MUSA

Fábrica Musa – Taste Lisbon’s Craft Beer

Musa lives in Marvila, Lisbon’s most industrial district. Focused on high-quality raw ingredients and rigorous production practices, it combines tradition with innovation and fresh ingredients.

Tip: There are often live concerts, so check their Facebook page before you go.

Trobadores

Trobadores – A Medieval Tavern

This cozy tavern transports you back to medieval times. Folk music plays in the background, and drinks are served in trumpet-shaped mugs. Don’t miss the opportunity to try traditional Portuguese mead.

Quiosque Principe Real

Quiosque Príncipe Real – For an Afternoon Drink

Technically not a bar, but if you’re in Lisbon, you must try at least one kiosk. Scattered across the city, this one is our favorite. Located next to the Príncipe Real Garden, this small kiosk is the perfect spot to enjoy a beer or coffee in the afternoon. You can also grab small snacks here, like Lisbon’s famous pastéis de nata.

topo martim moniz

TOPO Martim Moniz – Rooftop Bar with a View

You can spot the red neon “BAR” sign from afar, but how do you get into this Lisbon rooftop bar? It’s easy—through the shopping center. Yes, you read that correctly. Enter the shopping center, take the elevator, and six floors later, you’re at TOPO. The visit is worth it for the views alone. From here, you can see São Jorge Castle and many of Lisbon’s viewpoints while sipping a cocktail.

Pensao amor

Pensão Amor – A Bold Place for a Drink

Much more than a bar, Pensão Amor is a landmark on the Rua Cor de Rosa in Cais do Sodré. Once a brothel, it now hosts creative projects focused on art and culture. The bar’s programming is alternative, and the cocktails lift your spirits.

Tip: Before choosing a table, take some time to explore all the rooms and decide where you’d like to sit.
